With a moderate energy level, these dogs require regular exercise to keep them happy and healthy. Daily walks and playtime will easily fulfill their needs, making them suitable for homes with space to run around, though they may not be the best fit for apartment living. American Bulldogs do shed, so some grooming will be needed, but with only monthly maintenance, their coat is generally manageable for most families.
Trainability is one of their strong suits as these dogs are intelligent and eager to please, which helps in establishing a well-behaved pet. While they can be somewhat reserved with unfamiliar dogs and cats, their loyal disposition shines through in a loving household.
