Pugs, with their distinct wrinkled faces and charming personalities, have a rich and ancient history that traces back to ancient China around 400 B.C. They were prized by Chinese emperors and lived in luxurious conditions, often being guarded by soldiers. These little dogs were bred to be companions, and their friendly and affectionate nature made them beloved by royalty.
The breed eventually made its way to Europe in the 16th century, where it quickly gained popularity among European nobility. Pugs were especially favored by the House of Orange in the Netherlands and by Queen Victoria in England, further cementing their status as cherished companions throughout history.
